Kannawidan 2k14
The Province of
Ilocos Sur has recently celebrated its Kannawidan Festival. This year marks the
province’s 196th year based on the royal decree which was dated Feb.
2, 1818 separating Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte. Prior to this date, the stretch
of Banguii in Ilocos Norte down to La Union is called Ylocos which is a term to
refer to the coastal inhabitants.
Kannawidan literally means
“from the low lands”. On Jan. 29 to Feb. 6, 2014, several activities were lined
for the celebration. Breath-taking tribal performances of the cultural
communities of Ilocos Sur were showcased to the natives and also the tourists
who came to witness the festival.
